On Saturday, the Russian government announced that it has detained Brittney Griner, an American basketball player who plays for the Phoenix Mercury, on drug charges.
A U.S. citizen’s future is stuck between the disagreements between Russia and the West countries over Ukraine. As The Russian Federal Customs Service stated the officials had detained the player after discovering vape cartridges that had hashish oil in her personal luggage at the Sheremetyevo airport around Moscow, after the release of a video that player turned out to be Griner. Lindsay Kagawa Colas did not deny the allegations. He stated that they are in close contact with Brittney and doing everything they can about her legal representation in Russia. Griner’s arrest came at a difficult and risky time because of the tension between U.S.-Russia since the Cuban missile crisis. Biden's government conducts numerous nations in crushing sanctions on Russia’s economy and politics. On Saturday Russian President Vladimir V. Putin declared that these movements are not so subtle declarations of war against his country. Also on that day, the State Department, which has been warning Americans about traveling to Russia for weeks, came up with a new "advice" suggesting that U.S. Citizens leave Russia as soon as possible.
“As this is an ongoing legal matter, we are not able to comment further on the specifics of her case but can confirm that as we work to get her home, her mental and physical health remain our primary concern.” declared Griner’s agent, Colas, in a statement.
